Dawn Marie Ferrer, M.S., SLP has been working as a speech-language pathologist (SLP)
since 1988. She has worked at various sites throughout the San Francisco Bay Area,
including private practices, before opening up her own in 2001. She currently provides
services in families' homes and at Abilities United in Palo Alto, CA, where she is the
private clinic coordinator, and collaborates with OTs, PTs, EI specialists, and Educators.
Dawn received her M.S. in Communication Disorders from San Francisco State University
(SFSU). She has co-presented with Lisa Luna DeCurtis on Autism and the Theory of Mind
(mind blindness) at the California Speech-Language Hearing Association (CSHA) state
convention in Monterey. They also co-presented on social approaches and intervention for
children with Autism at the Services, Treatments, Advocacy and Research (STAR) Parent
Conference on Autism, Oakland, CA. She is a cofounder of Morning2Moon Productions and
a coauthor of the weblog, Twilight Talks" at www.morning2moon.org.
Dawn has owned a private practice for 10 years serving the San Francisco Bay Area
through which she has focused on parent training, early intervention, and social cognitive
communication. She has worked with an array of communication disorders, particularly
Autism Spectrum Disorders, apraxia, fluency, delays and disorders in auditory processing,
neurology, and language.
Dawn is certified in Hanen and Links to Language and has received trainings in:
*Sarah Rosenfeld Johnson's Oral-placement therapy (Talk Tools)
*Nancy Kaufman's treatment to apraxia
*Barbara Hodsen's Phonological Processes
*Stanley Greenspan's Floortime
*Steven Gutstein's Relationship Development Intervention (RDI)
*Pamela Wolfberg's Integrated Play Therapy
for which she utilizes a combinatoin of these strategies in therapy to create a unique
therapeutic approach. She is working towards a masters degree in Marriage and Family
